goalie

Our youngest son played goalie today. He did a fantastic job! We were very proud of him. And more importantly - he enjoyed it. It is a hoot to see the younger ones all suited up in the goalie pads. The pads are almost as big as they are!

TOG Year 4 digital

Yes you guessed it - more problems.

I just bought unit 3 and went to use the loom - and the file is corrupt so that it won't pull up.

I do not like to slam a vendor but in all honesty I have to warn anyone looking at getting TOG digital - run for your life!!!

It has been nothing but a problem. Now I get to hang on the phone tomorrow to try and get this fixed. What a waste of my time! But that is all that TOG digital is - a waste of time and money!

Buyer beware - is all I can say!

famous quotes

Wow - if this one doesn't apply directly to these times we are living in. He certainly hit the nail on the head with this one!

GEORGE WASHINGTON (1732-1799)
"Few men have virtue to withstand the highest bidder."

field trip to Veterans Museum

This was really a great field trip. I was impressed with what they had to say and teach the kids (and us adults). The Veterans Museum was founded by some Civil War Vets as they wanted to preserve the history of the war they just fought in. Then as our state sent soldiers into other wars - they became a part of Wisconsin history and the museum. Only about 20% of the artifacts are even on display. Much of the collection is in the archive storage - it isn't just about room to display it all but that the items are better preserved if they are not exposed to the light. Our tour had two parts to it: first was a talk with the curator of the museum that explained about the archives and how they preserve them, the second part of the tour was a guided tour of the exhibits with explanations of the wars since the Civil War.

He has some fascinating details on some of the artifacts. Much of what he showed us had to do with communications between soldiers and their families during war time. One of the letters from the Civil War show how the soldier tried to conserve paper by writing on both sides of the paper and he wrote across the paper one way - then turned it and wrote over his writing in another direction. It made it very hard to read but he did conserve paper. He showed us V-mail that was used in WWII - in order to save space on the mail transports that were also transporting supplies - the government copied the letters and then sent just the rolls of film over - it took up less space. At the other end, they then made a copy of the letter. It was really kind of neat. The only time V-mail was ever used was during WWII.

The blessing

Let it be said of us
while we walked among the living
let it be said of us
by the ones we leave behind
let it be said of us
that we lived to be a blessing for life
let it be said of us
that we gave to reach the dying
let it be said of us
by the fruit we leave behind
let it be said of us that our legacy is blessing for life
this day
you set life, you set death right before us, this day
every blessing and curse is a choice now
and we will
choose to be a blessing for life
let it be said of us
that our hearts belonged to Jesus
let it be said of us
that we spoke the words of life
let it be said of us
that our heritage is blessing for life
(chorus)
for your Kingdom
for our Children
for the sake of every nation

the quick fix

I was watching Brothers & Sisters tonight (honestly a horrible show with very worldly values - I have no idea why I watch it - there is no redeeming quality to it at all but for some reason I like the characters. I can relate to Kitty who is the only republican in the family.)

Anyway, I was watching it and started to think - in the hour show here is what happened:
Kitty collapses, was rushed to the hospital, found out she had a blood clot, was on blood thinners, family finds out that the doctor had told her the cancer tumor has spread while on chemo, obviously chemo is not work, decides to go with a different course of treatment, search and find a donor for a bone marrow transplant, renew their vows, has the transplant and finally it is determined she is in remission and going to live to have a long life. ALL IN A HOUR!

Americans like their shows all neatly wrapped up with a happy ending in a hour! Is it any wonder that Americans are unwilling to do what is needed to fix the huge debt we are running up? It would take a long time - couldn't be wrapped up in a hour. It would take sacrifice and cutting back. Americans want the easy road, the instant gratification road. We want our cancers treated and solved in a hour! Is it any wonder that we are in the mess we are in right now! Sometimes the right road involves skipping the quick fix and actually taking the time and energy to do it right. It takes time, sacrifice and lots of work. Americans used to know how to roll up their shirt sleeves and get the job done. Now we want the quick fix - even if it means the fix won't hold - it is like putting duct tape over the hole in the Titanic. Do we really think that will hold? Certainly it is easy and can be done in a hour - but will it hold? Will it last? Will America last?
