Tour of recycling plant

Here the workers are sorting the items that come into the plant. People will occasionally throw things into the recycling bin that might be able to be recycled. These workers watch what is on the conveyor belt and pick out things that don't belong.
This pile that he is moving is all the recycled paper from just that morning! Amazing! We were there at 10:00 a.m. - not long into the morning.
These are fun products they made from items - a way of recycling - using an item a second time. The juice bags were made into a purse. The pretzel bag was made into a pencil case with a zipper. The little bowl was made out of gum wrappers twisted up into a rope.

No, we actually did not. These were samples they had to show the concept of re-using something before it hits the landfills. Kind of amazing what they came up with. Very creative ideas.

Thank you Melissa. I love to seek out new and interesting things in the local area to tour. I have even called various businesses and factories - many of them are very wiling to give tours. My boys just love to see things first hand and it is amazing how much more is retained about the processes involved when they get to see it first hand.
