Is this just a beautiful church? Catholic churches are just so beautiful - inside and out. Plus this is one of the oldest churches in our city - the kids are standing by the cornerstone that dates it to 1893. The church community started before that time - but this building wasn't built until 1893. Still, in our area it is one of the oldest or close to the oldest church. (I know there is one older but it was picked up and moved to a historical re-enactment place. So it is not really in its original place but it would be older than this one.)
My pictures really don't do the inside of the church justice. It was so beautiful. The stain glass windows were incredible and this one shown below depicts the saints.
Father - who gave us the tour - was simply a wonderful man. He is 89 years old. There are three priests assigned to this church - he is the oldest at 89 but the other two are also in their 80's. Kind of makes me wonder what the plan is for this church in the next few years as these priests who have led it start to pass on. It seems there is no new young blood to take over. That is very sad because it is such a beautiful church and is right in the heart of the city. We need churches in the heart of cities to take the lead --- and lead cities in a Godly direction. I find it sad to think this church may struggle without new young priests to replace the three that are currently there. I do hope and pray there is a plan for succession.
Isn't this a beautiful altar!
