We went to the doctor today. His wound is still not fully closed but it is close. I guess that all the leaking caused a blister (the doctor saw that last week - I was unaware there was a blister). That has now healed up and the area is looking much better. There is still a small hole where there is a bit of leaking still occurring. This is all normal for the extent of the wound.
Interesting though. The doctor did pull out tweezers --- and kind of dug around in the 'hole' and pulled out a very small piece of bone. He said this is also normal - they pack the wound with bone (from cadavers) and sometimes a small amount end up on the outside of the bone once it is closed up --- and this the body will 'expel'. And that is exactly what happened. The digging in the hole / wound was a bit painful for Tom.
He has been told that he can now shower fully - (He has been showering with one leg outside of the tub - sitting on his shower stool.) How he can get his leg and foot wet. But he has to wear a waterproof band aid --- so that water won't get in the hole. And after he is suppose to clean it all with hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol. Then he is to put Neosporin antibiotic cream on it. Still, it seems that it is healing well. We have another check up next week just to be sure there are no issues since he can now get wet.

I haven't read many blogs lately. Wow, sounds like Tom has been busy. Yuck! Hope he's doing better now.
Thank you - yes he is on the mend but it will be awhile - he has had major surgery and the short update is that -- it will be at least 6 months until he can walk. But it wasn't cancer and so while recovery is not fun - he will recover eventually. So it is all good.
Glad to hear that he is on the mend. Bless his heart, and yours too!
OUCH! Glad it's healing nicely though.
